Flock to the twitter

I'm posting tons of stuff on Twitter lately, mostly links to seductive tunes that Seduction City deems worthy of the Seductronica moniker. Check it out here.

Winter may kill but it also sounds pretty good

Josh Gabriel has been getting a lot of play on Seduction City recently. And why not? His new project with chanteuse Meredith Call called Winter Kills is just too good to be contained. This album is more money than Reggie Miller in a playoff game against the Knicks.

Mysterious downtempo seductronica is what we traffic here...and based on this album, Josh Gabriel is our dealer.

Twelve years too late

One of the crazy things that happens frequently as I'm researching tunes to put on the station is that I find some random stuff that I've never heard of that is just a hidden gem.

I think I first heard Urchin probably about ten years ago on the Winter Chill compilation which included the track Candlelight. It's a dark, mysterious track with some deep instrumental trip hop influences and though I loved the track at the time, for some reason I didn't follow up at the time to see if their other stuff was any good.

Flash forward to 2011 and on a whim I decide to check out their eponymous album which came out back in '99 (put into perspective how long ago that was...Hanson was big then) and of course the damn album is dope. Now I feel like an idiot that I didn't know about it sooner.

Composed of producer Jez Coode and DJ Nic One, this album's calling card is sinister beats and samples reminiscent of DJ Krush, DJ Shadow and Portishead. I even hear one of my favorites in there, namely Teargas & Plateglass, which is really too ill to get much play on this station. Think dark menacing beats that get into you skull and get your head bobbin and the boots knocking. This stuff is addictive, albeit best in small doses.

I've included the songs The Peddler and Ice Cream Van on the playlist this week. You've been warned.

The Fonz lives

I don't know if Aaron McClelland is paying Henry Winkler royalties or not, but his moniker Fonzerelli released a cornball pop-dance tune called "Dreamin' (of a hot summers night)" a few years backs that apparently was a hit in Ibiza clubs.

Not as well known is a chill version of this track that overcame the cheese to become an addictive and cool oddity. Listen for it on Seduction City this week.

Seduction City Hall of Fame: Lukas Termena

Who the heck is Lukas Termena? He is an enigma and a paradox. Aside from being a producer from Poland, little can be found about him on the net. But Mr. Termena should be lauded, curtseyed to and generally worshipped for achieving the impossible:

He made a Linkin Park song listenable.

In fact, his remix of New Divide is not only listenable, it's actually good. Not only that, but he's released a host of original songs as well that are some of the best produced chilltronica out there. A bona fide dual threat -- remixer and producer. The problem is tracking down his stuff, he doesn't have a proper album that I can find and in general mp3s are sparse.

Key tracks: Infinity, Weightlessness (Lukas Termena Chillout Mix), Apologize (Lukas Termena Chillout Mix), Broken Glass

Seduction City Hall of Fame: Emiliana Torrini

Emiliana Torrini was an easy pick as an inaugural member of Seduction City's Hall of Fame, with her unique voice and various trip-hop and electronic elements permeating her music. Hailing from Iceland, Torrini has been singing since the young spry age of 7, and ever since her intriguing voice has attracted attention, leading to a number of collaborations. She contributed vocals to Gus Gus' first album Polydistortion, which was the first time her voice entered my ears, and has also worked with Seduction City staples such as Thievery Corporation. She attracted none other than director Peter Jackson's attention who enlisted her to sing "Gollum's Song" for the second Lord of the Rings movie, The Two Towers.

But as far as we're concerned, it's her solo output, particularly 1999's Love in the Time of Sciencethat stand out. It is that first album that contained the most interesting production and intriguing soundscapes, ranging from melancholic (Unemployed in the Summertime) to sensual (Fingertips), it's electronic pop at its finest.

Key tracks:
Easy, Unemployed in the Summertime, Fingertips, Sunny Road (Manasseh Mix), If You Go Away, Me and Armini (Manasseh Mix), Baby Blue (Rae & Christian Remix), Ha Ha

Listener rating is dragging ass

I know this is a shameless shill, but can somebody please rate Seduction City on live365? All of a sudden the average has dropped to 9.33 with a meager 6 votes. A few months ago I had 20 votes and the rating was over 9.5. I know that I have more listeners than 6, please get off your duff and vote.

Yes, I'm being greedy, but it's only fair that we all do our part. Ask not what Seduction City can do for you, but what you can do for Seduction City.

See? I worked in a JFK reference--that deserves five stars. Or, if you're set on giving one star, give it to Chillout Beats.
