<br />
Unfortunately, due to the cost considerations we are discontinuing the station.<br />
<br />
Though we developed a loyal listenership things never took off like I hoped. Probably my fault for never really finding an effective way to market it. <br />
<br />
Farewell but not goodbye...webslinger48http://www.blogger.com/profile/18346081221496283437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-596709272766120470.post-60852137107427001842013-11-30T02:41:00.001-08:002013-11-30T02:41:47.859-08:00Sexing things upYou may have noticed the cheesy new image of the generic bikini-clad chick laying out on the yacht somewhere in Ibiza as the key image for Seduction City.<br />
<br />
Well forgive me, but we're sexing thing up a little bit.<br />
<br />
Ever hear the motto "sex sells?"<br />
<br />
Well I hope it's true. Because we need the heat.<br />
<br />
I thought it would be enough to play simply the best possible chillout/downtempo music on The Web. Apparently, that doesn't get it done. So I'm shamelessly taking things a step further. Random Internet image of some hot harlot laying on a yacht? Sure.<br />
<br />
But y'know what? It kinda makes sense.<br />
<br />
The root of all of the music of Seduction City is carnal at heart. Even though I listen to it myself when I'm at work or driving or drafting my fantasy basketball team... it is in effect stuff that I put together for special alone time with my once-girlfriend-now-wife.<br />
<br />
So why deny it any longer?<br />
<br />
Some wear their hearts on their sleeve; Seduction City wears it's inspiration on it's blogspot header. Or something.<br />
<br />
<br />
But despite the blatant sellout, we're still all about the music here. So please enjoy the new stuff I've put on this month, such as...<br />

Probably. But Seduction City is going VIP-only for a little while.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is a labor of love, this internet radio thing. And like most such pursuits, it is not a moneymaker. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Still, the expenses are adding up and meanwhile the money coming in is a trickle.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The math is pretty easy, really: Monthly costs include royalty payments, bandwidth, storage space, music purchases, etc. The only money that offsets this is if VIP listeners listen to the station or sign up for a membership through Seduction City. Or listeners donate via Paypal, which to date nobody has done.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have a day job, of course, which covers the costs but with listening hours dwindling Seduction City is at a crossroads of sorts. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you enjoy the station, please donate via Paypal or through a VIP membership to keep things going.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thank you.</div>
<div>

<br />
But if it stuff is good enough, it doesn't matter when it was made.<br />
<br />
When I launched the station back in 2009, things were still in relative disarray and Seduction City was still finding it's voice. But I know this was one of the very first songs I played.<br />
<br />
And I love it now just as much as ever:<br />

<br />
For months I have been playing a 2 minute demo of Zetandel's and Seven24's remix of Dennis Sheperd's "Fallen Angel", but I had pretty much given up hope that there would ever be a full version.<br />
<br />
But it actually exists, by gosh. I feel like I stumbled onto Bigfoot's lair and snapped a picture of the elusive beast...<br />

During that time, our audience has grown, as has our music library. However, over the last six months or so the we've hit a plateau of 4,000 to 5,000 listener-hours per month.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The station is set up to accommodate ten times that amount. Thus, we are taking the next step in the growth of Seduction City.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are getting listed on itunes.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This announcement is a tad bit premature since we aren't on there yet. I submitted the station for consideration last week and assuming all goes well, it should be live by the end of the year.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So thank you to all of our listeners for getting us this far. And hold on to your knickers and join us as we take the next step.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First itunes...then the WORLD.</div>

<br />
Nay. It also includes smaller, more modest one bedroom apartment buildings and rent-controlled studios<br />
<br />
Similarly, Our playlist contains the normal chillout staples that you already know and love, as well as obscure remixed gems and glorious new stuff.<br />
<br />
For example, take the Seven24 and Zetandel remix of ATB's Desperate Religion. <br />

They've got a song called "Letters". Now that song in itself is not difficult to obtain--it's on itunes. But the obscure "Chris Nemmo Postman Mix" of the song? Fuhgeddaboudit. <br />
<br />I think I first heard <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Urchin/dp/B00000I7I6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1314686686&sr=8-2">Urchin</a> probably about ten years ago on the Winter Chill compilation which included the track <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QQIG7M/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk1">Candlelight</a>. It's a dark, mysterious track with some deep instrumental trip hop influences and though I loved the track at the time, for some reason I didn't follow up at the time to see if their other stuff was any good.
<br />
<br />Flash forward to 2011 and on a whim I decide to check out their eponymous album which came out back in '99 (put into perspective how long ago that was...Hanson was big then) and of course the damn album is dope. Now I feel like an idiot that I didn't know about it sooner.
<br />
<br />Composed of producer Jez Coode and DJ Nic One, this album's calling card is sinister beats and samples reminiscent of DJ Krush, DJ Shadow and Portishead. I even hear one of my favorites in there, namely <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Teargas-Plateglass/dp/B0001Z36E6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314686507&sr=8-1">Teargas & Plateglass</a>, which is really too ill to get much play on this station. Think dark menacing beats that get into you skull and get your head bobbin and the boots knocking. This stuff is addictive, albeit best in small doses.
<br />
<br />I've included the songs The Peddler and Ice Cream Van on the playlist this week. You've been warned.

He is an enigma and a paradox. Aside from being a producer from Poland, little can be found about him on the net. But Mr. Termena should be lauded, curtseyed to and generally worshipped for achieving the impossible:<div><br /></div><div>He made a Linkin Park song listenable. </div><div><br /></div><div>In fact, his remix of New Divide is not only listenable, it's actually good. Not only that, but he's released a host of original songs as well that are some of the best produced chilltronica out there. A bona fide dual threat -- remixer and producer. The problem is tracking down his stuff, he doesn't have a proper album that I can find and in general mp3s are sparse.</div><div><br /></div><div>Key tracks: Infinity, Weightlessness (Lukas Termena Chillout Mix), Apologize (Lukas Termena Chillout Mix), Broken Glass</div>webslinger48http://www.blogger.com/profile/18346081221496283437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-596709272766120470.post-31922373068722511732011-01-21T12:04:00.000-08:002011-03-24T12:41:58.770-07:00Seduction City Hall of Fame: Emiliana Torrini<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://img.listal.com/image/447200/600full-emiliana-torrini.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 330px; height: 416px;" src="http://img.listal.com/image/447200/600full-emiliana-torrini.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:100%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';">Emiliana Torrini was an easy pick as an inaugural member of Seduction City's Hall of Fame, with her unique voice and various trip-hop and electronic elements permeating her music. Hailing from Iceland, Torrini has been singing since the young spry age of 7, and ever since her intriguing voice has attracted attention, leading to a number of collaborations. She contributed vocals to Gus Gus' first album</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"> Polydistortion, which was the first time her voice entered my ears, and has also worked with Seduction City staples such as Thievery Corporation. An hour-long continuous mix by yours truly of pure downtempo gold. Some of these songs are brand-spanking new, never seen the light of day on the air. Others are old faves that I needed to dredge up once again. All of a sudden the average has dropped to 9.33 with a meager 6 votes. A few months ago I had 20 votes and the rating was over 9.5. I know that I have more listeners than 6, please get off your duff and vote.<br /><br />Yes, I'm being greedy, but it's only fair that we all do our part. Ask not what Seduction City can do for you, but what you can do for Seduction City.<br /><br />See? I worked in a JFK reference--that deserves five stars. Or, if you're set on giving one star, give it to <a href="http://www.live365.com/index.live?curl=%2Fweb%2Fcomponents%2Fcontent%2Fhome%2Fhome.live">Chillout Beats</a>.webslinger48http://www.blogger.com/profile/18346081221496283437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-596709272766120470.post-84721974498793934922010-12-22T17:37:00.000-08:002011-01-07T18:23:06.294-08:00"Sounds of Eternity" by W&D ProjectAnybody listening to Seduction City semi-regularly is probably somewhat familiar with the <a href="http://www.myspace.com/wdproject">W&D Project</a>, a duo of Russian producer/DJs that specialize in electronica but also have remixed and produced a plethora of chillout tunes. These guys have an hour long mix they put together once a month called "<a href="http://wdproject.promodj.ru/groups/63404.html">Sounds of Eternity</a>" which is great, and I've added the first episode to the playlist, so give it a listen.<div><br /></div><div>In typical Seduction City fashion, the program does not air at any particular time because we don't have a watch and aren't organized enough to set a schedule. Why didn't anybody tell me?! It's been running that way for over a week, fer crissake.<div><br /></div><div>I love you guys, my listeners. It pains me to think that you were listening to only 2:43 of a song that is 4:06. So because I'm such a magnanimous dude, I'm restoring the missing 1:23 of the song---ABSOLUTELY FREE!</div><div><br /></div><div>Seriously, if you guys hear anything wrong with the stream...please e-mail me or send a shout-out. I want to make this your absolute favorite station ever! And to do that, I need to be giving you 100% of the songs you love, not 66%. That's a bitch move.</div><div><br /></div><div>Forever yours,</div><div>Webslinger48</div>webslinger48http://www.blogger.com/profile/18346081221496283437noreply@blogger.com0
